Before there was Elsa, there was a princess who exhibited excellence and grace on the ice. Her journey into the unknown as America’s most iconic and celebrated figure skater was as fascinating to watch unfold as it is to reflect on it, fifteen years after her first U.S. and World Championship wins.
Princess Michelle Kwan was drawn to the ice at the age of five. The wonders of supportive parents! At the age of eleven, after just one year of training under the tutelage of Frank Carrol, she competed and placed 9th at the United States Figure Skating Championships, at the junior level. To passionately pursue such an enormous endeavor is a true testament to the determination and strength that Princess Michelle would exhibit throughout her career.
Our darling Princess Michelle went on to become the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history.
Her most recent endeavor, Recipe for Change, is a stunning insight into the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) culture. Princess Michelle joins Asian American creators, chefs, celebrities, and activists to discuss the recent and historic acts of hate and violence against the AAPI community.
For us, Princess Michelle simply encapsulates the ideals and standards of being a princess. Her tenacity and dedication, beauty and grace, and continuing pursuit of justice and equality, is what makes her the Princess Network’s #PrincessOfTheWeek.
